Picked up the CMC from BAP-GEON. Removal of the old unit wasn't as simple as I thought it would be as there isn't much room under the dash, and getting the clevis pin off the clutch pedal was a major pain. It was simpler once I removed the switches that trigger the cruise control to turn off. Actual install of CMC wasn't too difficult. Again, putting the clevis pin back onto the clutch pedal assembly was most difficult, but finally got it. As to the cruise control switch assembly, I ended up getting my much-thinner-than-me 14 year old son to insert the bolt whilst I held the switch assembly in alignment. It is much easier to remove than to replace. But unfortunately, I was unable to bleed the clutch. Having just replaced the hose from the master to the slave about a month ago, I figured I wouldn't need to obtain a pressure bleeding kit anytime soon. Wrong ! So off to my indy this A.M., bright and early to avoid as much traffic as possible. (It would be great if there were a local SAAB club that had a pressure bleeding kit that they could loan out to members for just such an occasion.) I had no clutch at all. Must have been full of air. Had to start the car in 2nd gear and if I had to stop I would turn off the car, keep it in 2nd gear and then start it again when the light turned green. Quite an experience, and one I hope I don't have to repeat again anytime soon. My indy bled it and the pedal is nice and firm. He did mention that the hole in the pedal assembly had become oblong instead of round. Gives a little play before the lever actuates the CMC. He said it was realatively easy to replace, but some people just wedge in a shim of some sort. Anyone done this, or did you just replace the clutch pedal assembly? If things get funny anytime soon, then I'll suspect the slave, but having just replaced the tranny about a year ago with one from a much younger car, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it should be good for a few years anyway. Thanks to all for your suggestions. A new steering rack is next, but in the meantime I'll just make sure the power steering fluid reservoir is full until I can purchase the new unit.
