Firstly, Saab filters are re-badged AC-Delco PF-53, the only difference being the copy--and they didn't even bother changing the color. You can save a buck or two by stopping at K-mart rather than your friendly Saab dealer.
A better choice than this and possibly any other filter might be the new Ultraguard Gold (UPF-53 for 9K's), if you believe Delco's propaganda (http://www.acdelco.com). I studied it, and the hype sounded plausible enough for me to switch from Mobil 1. These, Mobil 1, and Amsoil are synthetic fiber filters, and none of them are cheap: $9 (Delco) to $10 (Mobil 1).
Amsoil, a reputedly fine filter, is in that price range--but like their oil you may find availability to be problematic.
Prices in this range shouldn't make even the most ardent skinflint like me wince. The question is, why skimp when the margin is a few dollars every few months. If you're using extended drain intervals, 10k normally being no problem for Mobil 1 or any other good synthetic, I wouldn't skimp on the filter. If you change more often than this, you could go with conventional filters like the PF-53.
Check out the website below for some insight on filters.
