how to remove Bosch metal pump from plastic body?

Ok along with numerous others on this message board I'm having fuel pump problems. I've a '88 9ks with a Bosch unit. After a used replacement for the original failed I figured it was time to shell out for a new one. The problem is the used one came with the big rubber gaiter and plastic body all included whereas the new one is just the metal pump itself. How do I get the old metal pump out of the black plastic body to replace it with the new metal pump? It sort of moves around a little but is being very reluctant to move up and out. It must move up and down somehow so that you can get the total height of the pump to the correct 25 cms but I just can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks for any info.
