I agree...boost gauge horror story!! Posted by Karl [Email] (#161) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Karl) on Fri, 15 Dec 2000 01:38:30 In Reply to: I agree....without numbers, 91Aerojr, Thu, 14 Dec 2000 18:25:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought my 97 9K Aero in January of this year. Althought I instinctively felt it wasn't as fast as a 91 Aero I've done much driving in, I figured it was different gear ratios playing tricks on me...
Consulted all the Aero owners I could find, and they all agreed that somewhere into solid red is just about right for a well performing stock Aero. So I changed plugs (car had slightly over 22K well serviced). Marginal improvement.
Then we hooked up a real boost gauge...and it turns out that slightly into solid red is ....BASE BOOST... New BPC valve...and, voilà...nice solid 1,08 bar boost... As it turns out, 1,08 bar (that's 15 something PSI) is PAST the end of the solid red area of my boost gauge, i.e into black...
My car now boosts appr. 21 PSI max with reprogrammed ECU...this equals 1500 hours as they would have said in Goodmorning Vietnam... When recently filled with gas, the two needles are very very close to eachother...
Conclusion...in-dash boost gauge is fine for monitoring YOUR car's performance relative to itself, if, and only if, you know for sure what the different boost levels correspond to IRL...
I'm installing a "real" boost gauge in the angled DIN-panel this spring...
