Crutchfield calls it a 6 1/2S, or oversized 6.5". I'd wager that most retail stores do not know what this is, but the better ones might. I did try a set of 6.5" components from MTX in my 9000 once however, which were not marked as oversize or special in any way, and they fit perfectly.
If I recall correctly, most 6.5" car speakers have three screw holes (or six), not the four as you'll find on the stock speakers, which means you'll be drilling new holes anyway. Pretty easy to do, as the whole speaker mounting plate can be removed from the car..
You could replace just the rear woofers with some from Madisound, the stock rear tweeters are actually pretty good, and as for a crossover, the only thing used stock is a capacitor (high pass filter) on the tweeter, the woofer runs full range. I'm running my Audax woofers full range, and to me they sound just as good as when I had them crossed over with a low pass around 4 kHZ. You certainly can improve on the stock capacitor, however.. Oh and any of the Madisound 6.5" driver should fit, they are all 'oversize'.
Cheers,
Aaron Gilbert
