Actually, i'm driving pretty hard from time to time, hard enough to get discs glowing and this car isn't used for anything important but to race trough backroads and small trips , so it isn't an issue. It's also bought cheaply.
I'm living in sweden and parts for my SAAB are dirt cheap here. I can afford new brake pads at will (they cost ~30$ a set). Fitting them is not too hard either (with early Girling calipers)
Also, SAAB being a swedish car and me living in sweden, i can find performance bits and pieces for some minor money. Theese rotors aren't drilled at home at all.
They are made by some french company , i don't remember the name but i can look it up for you. They are both drilled and grooved, and all drill-holes are sunken with wider diameter drill. They are also asymetric, so grooves go in different direction for each rotor, and they are balanced too, so we are not talking about "some guy made it in the shed" parts here.
A friend of mine has a pair of those and he put his trough some very hard paces. His rotors are all blue from the heat but they didn't start wobbling yet. No funny noises either, they chew pads faster, but we are talking about years here.
Actually i don't know if they really cost 50$, but i know that they cost 400SEK, so you can look it up.
There is only one problem, they are just available for 87 to 89 models, and they are probably on discount beacuse nowbody wanted to buy them.
Cheers.
