While accelerating away from a light with the engine only warmed up for 5 min. I heard a pop then the motor died. I managed to get it to restart and drove it into the next gas station (no warning lights on the dash) to see what had happened (1/4 mile). While limping it in I noticed that it wouldn't rev over 2000-2500 rpm and it was missing badly.
With huge relief I found the intake tube had come out of the hose clamp directly under the air filter and proceeded to put the thing back on with the crush of THOR "the god of swedish hose clamps".
All appears to now run normally and max boost hasn't yet caused any more issues or loud pops....praise to THOR.......BUT I now have a noticeable whine in the turbo at certain boost levels but not always at the same level...this is something that I haven't ever heard in this car since I purchased it 4 months ago. So the question is DO I have a potential issue from the Turbo as a result of driving it with no intake pipe attached? Could I have over revved or speeded the turbo and hurt the bearing? The noise I talk about is fairly slight and not much different then my old 900T sounded like when I got on the boost but it's the sudden change in the sound that has me worried.
TIA for any comforting words of wisdom and Happy Holidays,
Bill
