I had the same problem about 2 winters ago with my 1990 9000T. It would barely warm up enough for the heat to come on. It just needed a new thermostat and everything was fine.
You can check your thermostat by removing it, putting it a pan of water with a reliable thermometer and slowly heating the water. Watch for the thermostat to open and check the temperature at which it does this. I don't know the exact temps that its *supposed* to open, but this is a good way of checking to see if you need a new one. If its not this, your temp sensor could also be bad.
