If I were doing it today, I'd probably go with Peerless though. However, if I recall correctly, some of the Peerless 6.5" or smaller drivers are a little less (sometimes a lot less) efficient than either the Vifa or Audax units, so bear that in mind if you're running just off the stock wimpy amp. Still, the prices are very competitive with Audax or Vifa, and with I think a little smoother sound with less distortion (due to the longer Xmax - linear excursion). The low efficiency may not apply to the 4 ohm Peerless drivers though, and 4 ohm is what you want if you can get it in the driver you're looking at. 8 ohm will work fine though, don't let anyone tell you that you cannot use an 8 ohm woofer in your car. Your amp just won't be able to produce as much power into 8 ohm as into 4 ohm.
My latest Madisound catalog is a couple years old, but I can look at the model you are eyeing, if you like. Overall, what you should be looking for is a smooth frequency response, relatively high Qts (over 0.30, preferably over 0.40), and durable construction. Most of the Audax, Vifa, and Peerless drivers come with rubber surrounds and polypropylene (or some other exotic and equally durable material) cones, so construction is similar. The Peerless have the advantage of a concave hard dust cap, so that's one less thing to damage.
Cheers,
Aaron Gilbert
