O2 Sensors and UK spec cars...

Just to clear this up, once and for all...
Early UK spec 9ks (including Ts) didn't have cats, and they didn't have O2 sensors. How did the ecu manage without the O2 signal? It seems, from the many O2 related posts, that a failed O2 sensor has a serious effect. So, does the AMM take all the responsibility, or what?
The same is true for 900s, which is why this post will also appear on the OG900 bb. I want to know!
