Mine pulled loose from the lever inside the car. I simply used a large needle nose pliers to get the end of the wire back through the hole in lever and put as much of a bend in the wire as I could to keep it on there. It's been hanging in there for several months.
Hint 1: Have someone push in on the cable at the hood latch end when attempting to rethread the cable through the hold in the lever.
Hint 2: Lubricate cable under the hood. I think my problem was the result of corrosion making the cable stiff to operate.
