Check engine light Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 2 Jan 2001 13:55:25 In Reply to: Fuel Injection for 90 9000 turbo, michael [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 29 Dec 2000 10:34:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are many things which can turn on the check engine light. Cleaning the injectors probably won't help.
The check engine light will come on with incorrect readings from the O2 sensor, Air Mass Meter, temperature sensors, a whole host of things. Basically, just about anything the engine control computer decides is a fault gets funneled into one "check engine" light.
First off, look under the hood for any loose electrical connectors. Make sure any of the connectors you see are seated firmly. Next, look for vacuum hoses that may have fallen off, or be cracked. A vacuum leak can cause the light to come on.
If none of these simple fixes work, what you need to do is bring the car down to a dealer who will read out the codes with a scan tool. I don't have my manuals handy, so I don't know which variant of LH fuel injection you have, so I don't know if you can read out the fault codes yourself. In some versions you can do that yourself with just a switch and a light bulb. Check the Townsend site (http://www.townsendimports.com) under "technical documents" for more information.
Good luck!
