If it turns out that the H-balancer has separated, make "ABSOLUTELY SURE" that you tighten the bolt for the balancer to spec when you fit up. That bolt holds the timing chain sprocket, balance shaft sprocket, (In your case you don't have one.) the oil pump in place with a Woodruff key on the crankshaft. If the bolt is not tightened, the timing chain sprocket could walk on the crankshaft. Since the timing chain sprocket is on the inside, engaging the key by the tip, it has the potential of shearing off the tip of the Woodruff key and become free spinning woth respect to the carnkshaft if it walks.
Bent valves is the minimum damage when that happens.
