Have you ever noticed that the ACC's settings (if you override the auto settings after you start the car) are erased when you turn off the car? Actually the ACC remembers for a certain period of time (I don't remember the exact # of minutes). The fan keeps running so that it can pick up where it left off. I would say it's just about enough time to fill the gas tank! It wouldn't need to run so long to cool off a thermistor.
