The outside temp. sensor is mounted down next to the driver's side foglight, presumably to get it as far away from the engine and as close as possible to the ground so that it can be most accurate where it is needed most IMHO - knowing if there's going to be ice on the ground. I doubt that its readings are anywhere near accurate as to the temp the battery sees. The battery is mounted above the engine and as we all know, heat rises.
