No, the CD stands for the body style. But you probably already know that.
When you slide the DIN tools in, all that does is release the catches. I usually tilt the tools slighty out (side to side) - this binds them in the body of the radio, and it pulls out. There is a small notch in the tools near the ends - face those towards the center of the radio. No rocket science here - I've used bent coathangers and small nails to release the radio.
The equalizer is just an equalizer - no amplification. There is a separate amplifier - it's mounted on the BACK of the metal cage the radio slips into. This cage can be removed by slightly bending out the metal tabs holding it in. You'll need to do this, because you're going to have to remove that cage to install a new radio.
Don't bother to even try to interface a new radio to the equalizer. First, the equalizer isn't worth the effort. Second, you'll spend A LOT of time cutting and splicing wires. The radio has a 'line' output - not a high level signal that goes to the equalizer. The equalizer attentuates the appropriate signals, then sends it back to the radio. The radio then sends the signal on to the amp, then to the speakers.
