Just finished putting in the new JVC MP3 player I ordered last week - Crutchfield has been selling it for $399+sh for a while and I've been drooling, last week when I found it at Etronics for $299 shipped, I jumped for it. I expected a tough install in my '93 CSE-t, and instead was pleasantly surprised. I removed the passenger seat and all the carpeting in the passenger footwell, removed the stock stereos (stock rear amp already replaced by aftermarket), bent the stock stereo cages a bit and pulled them out, and disconnected all wiring harnasses. I then cut the ends off the two stock harnasses that went into the stock decks, and stripped the wires, and also stripped the wires on the new harness. Using the saab audio manual's _fantastic_ wiring diagram on the back and the new deck's wiring diagram, I connected the wires from the old harnass to the new one. All the connectors I needed were present in the old wiring, and the only connection I made non-stock was to run the new deck's main power direcly to the battery (switched power still came from the stock wires). The stock antenna plug came out of the stock wiring harnass and plugged right into the new deck's cabling. I connected my rear amp to the KD-SH99's rear line-out and my sub amp to it's sub-amp line out (love all the line-outs this thing has), plugged the deck in outside the dashboard and was pleasantly surprised that _everything_ worked on the first try. I re-assembled and re-carpeted, with the entire job done in about an hour. Note though that I did a cheap twist job on the wire connections, I will re-do them by soldering later (made very easy by the fact that I now have a complete removable harnass for the connection between the head and the car's stock wiring.
Impressions on the deck - fantastic. Plays MP3's and CD's flawlessly, no skipping, reads filenames or ID3 tags from the files... it is solid and sturdy feeling, buttons have a good feel. The silver deck looks a bit odd with the walnut dash, but I bought it for the sound, features, and price. That said, when the inside lights are off at night it looks _fantastic_ IMHO, white lettering scrolling the song title, red button illumination, and a soft blue glow showing where the volume knob is (a big rotary knob just like the stock Clarion had, in just the "right" place).
My big task now is burning my whole CD and MP3 connection onto new CD's - the player will read individual directories and let you choose to play files from a certain directory by pushing number buttons on the unit's front, you in effect you can make yourself a 10-disk-or-so CD changer, on a single CD. A must for anyone who spends any serious time in their car.
If anyone needs more information or wants pictures, let me know.
