known defects:
>A/C totally shot
>headlamp wiper, heated seats not working
>worn tires
hidden defects:
>ACC II unit shot
>CD player shot
>front suspension shot
>warped rims
>broken driving light lens
>major temperature gauge issues (thermo, thermo switch, rewire all done)
>steering rack shot
Before I found out about the hidden defects, I was scolding myself for spending so much for a car with 130M miles on it. I was incensed when I found out all the "quick fixes" done by the previous owner and contemplated legal action as I believe there was blatant dishonesty on the seller's part. Of course, I should have been suspicious when the seller insisted on keeping the license plate holders (front and rear) and wanted ME to remove her plates. Get real. She even kept the rubber mats that she had in the car (they were in there when I test drove it and when I made the offer).
So, used car dealers suck but so do certain private sellers. Caveat emptor my friend. Oh, and don't participate in "herd" mentality. If you feel like you have to make a decision because someone might buy it out from under you...go look at all the classifieds on this board. Don't overpay.
