BillJ:
I went back out in the garage and checked my old O2 sensor (out of '96 LPT) and it was indeed the 662 one. So it makes sense that the other part number would be from an environment with perhaps different fuel additives (I have a Canadian-spec). Just to verify, I replaced mine with an Echlin part (#OS235) which fits NA-spec Fords to '96. As I believe I may have mentioned before, when I looked in the NAPA parts book, the only differences between sensors were the wire lead configuration and the length on the external portion of the sensor. The voltage range, etc., and thread were identical on all the 4-wire sensors I could find in their book which covered numerous makes including GM, Ford, MB, Volvo, BMW, etc. I would suspect that your problem may lie elsewhere, perhaps in one of the other engine environment sensors (MAP, air temp.????).
