Steve, the check valve is replaceable (remove the fuel supply line from the top of the pump and the check valve can be unscrewed with a screwdriver)if you can find a replacement. I don't think it is available from Saab but have not checked other Bosch sources.
Fuel can also leak back at these other spots:
1) Any of the 4 injectors with leaky poppet valves.
2) Through the Warm-up Regulator
3) Through the fuel distributor which also has a check valve in it in the 1978 and later units.
4) Any external leak
The check valve in the pump and the injectors are the most common culprits.
