For real 99 fun... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 17:49:02 In Reply to: you the man, alvaro isla, Mon, 16 Nov 2009 16:16:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Drop an 'H' motor in, and replace the spindles with 81-86 900 parts, and marvel at the improved handling from ridding yourself of close to 150 lbs of dead weight at or in front of the front axle...
Note that the B and H motors have the same output - 115 hp in non-turbo trim.
Of course, some of us who are wont to do this also dream of a 16v motor... It fits - barely - and the bigger head saps some of your weight loss, but that is offset by the improved power. Were I to do that. I'd stick with a non-turbo 16v (128 HP), and maybe even a 2.1 (140 hp). Others might go with the turbo, but I'd rather keep things lighter and simpler.
I love 99s, especially the 2-door nothchback. I love the way they handle, I love that I hardly ever have to do 'K' turns with them. They're lighter than a 900, yet many of the 900 go-fast bits fit on them. I wish I hadn't sold my last one, but I had other projects at the time. And, someday, if I find one, I'm importing a blue 1980 99 turbo 2-Door from Sweden...
