Good idea. It should certainly work for a while, but I believe that the reason they crack there is because of the movement/flexing that occurs because the manifold expands at a different rate than the head. So, you will still have a stress riser in that "crotch" between the runners, so unless the stuff remains flexible it will crack again. The fasteners holding the manifold to the head are pretty important as well - they actually need to not apply too much clamp load so that the manifold can literally "slide" along the gaskets to relieve some of the thermal stress as well.
