As far as I know, MSS and Jack Lawrence are the only ones who ever made a header for a 99. I had a conversation with him at last years convention, and made it known I was interested in one. His $225 price from 20 years ago was now in the $600-$700 range(since he was out of stock). I posted here about a group buy to get a better price, but I never did anything with it.
Back in the old days, circa 1990, when I had half a dozen engines and transmissions at my disposal, abusing a 74EMS was a daily occurrence, but never once did either fail. The performance with the header as compared to without was huge as I vividly recall. Revving to red line then popping the clutch one drunken outing resulted in marked pavement for a 50 ft stretch. Quite impressed I was, and in fact was never able to duplicate it with the stock manifold on.
Driving the car year round was no match for salted roads in Ohio, so not only did the car rot away, but so did the header. The header rotted at the collector, and when I mentioned that to Jack last year, he said I could send it to him and he could fix it...doh! I threw the thing out for scrap so long ago I can't remember when. I don't think I've thrown away a Saab 99 part since that day. :)
