I don't remember if I painted that surface or not. I didn't think it would matter coated or not since it shouldn't rust or be visible when mounted. I would bet that header will be pretty hot after running the engine. My current stock manifold is coated(thermachrome) and the heat from the engine discolored the coating. I also have to do some sort of extra heat shielding of the starter me thinks. I sometimes get a no start condition after running for a bit then stopping. The solenoid only clicks when I turn the key half a dozen times, then if finally starts.
