I always like to start with base engine hardware, so I would suggest doing hot and cold compression (or even better, leakdown) tests. If that looks OK, look to the ignition coil and coil wire - one cylinder is always weakest!
If all that looks OK then you could have a fuel system headache - look on

for instructions on how to check fuel flow (they show a 6 cyl, but it's the same with a 4 cylinder, you just use 4 tubes/bottles instead of 6). They also sell a kit if you don't want to make the flowmeter yourself - personally I'd just take 4 old fuel hoses and stick them in small bottles.
WARNING!!! Please do this test outdoors and have an assistant with a fire extinguisher standing by!
