I was having trouble with cold starting and one day when I was doing something under the hood I happened to push the connection on the cold start valve and found that the wires under the thermostat housing were stretched tight, pulling the connector loose. I rerouted a couple wires and took the stretch out, and it's been better since. But even during the coldest part of the winter (temp in the high teens/low twenties) we haven't had the kind of cold that the east coast has had. At cold temperatures, even a good battery doesn't have as much cranking power as when it's warmer. That also means there isn't as much power going to the coil.
