A vacuum leak can cause all kinds of havoc, it is letting unmetered air into the system and causing you to run lean. You may also want to check that your distributor vacuum/centrifugal advance mechanism is moving freely. It tends to sieze up on the old Bosch distributors and then you are just running at a fixed timing value all the time. Just need to take the distributor all apart and clean and lube the two shafts so that they can rotate freely. Then keep some oil in that little bit of felt on the top of the shaft to keep them lubricated in the future.
Good Luck!
Gary
