Had it happen when my 74 sat from 1996 to 2002. I pulled the engine to scrap the car and while draining the oil, coolant came pouring out. I of course was surprised and posted on the vintage board way back then(before we even had our own 99 board). I can think of three places as the source of the coolant - head gasket being the big one. The water pump oil seal could also be the source, but there's also a water jacket seal it has to get past. The easiest fix would be the intake manifold gasket, which I believe was the source of my problem. There's a coolant hose that connects underneath the manifold between cylinders 2 and 3 and corrosion of the aluminum head could have let coolant into the valve passages, which leaked past the valves, then into the cylinders, which eventually leaked past the piston rings.
