Upper A-arm bushing, drivers side

I've got a bad upper A-arm bushing on the driver's side. It's been disintegrating for a while, and now it's looking really bad. I've also got a strange vibration noise when I accelerate hard in 1st and 2nd that just cropped up, and the noise is from the drivers side. I'm thinking this bushing is now metal on metal and may be causing the noise. I'm told the engine has to be pulled to replace this. Is that true? My vented rotors project is going to have me pulling the hub and axle soon, and I'm hoping I can tackle this one at the same time, without pulling the engine.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what's involved?
