Shot-peened is a process where the part is shoot will a small ball materail, this causes the surface of the area where shot peened to be put in a compressive state. Since cracks propigate in tenstion it increases the strength of the part which was shot-peened, due to the fact it takes more force to over come the compressive force the surface is in.
