Finland is 130,000 sq miles, smaller than the state of California. The US covers 3.5 million sq miles, which make Finland only 4% of what the US is in size. 99's were only imported to the states until 1980, not 1984 as other markets, including Finland. You also got 90's until 1987 on top of it. If I had to estimate the number of restorable or driveable 99's left in the country, I'd have to say the number is less than 400(that number may be high), which makes a 99 in this vast country extrememly rare. Our problem over here is even finding a decent body that is worthy of a restoration. Alot of the east coast 99's have rotted away already. There are very few junk yards in the country that even have a 99 to scavenge parts from. Another point to mention is that we only received 99T's one year, in 1978, so finding one is not that easy either, which makes them highly desireable.
I spent close to $5000 each restoring the two 99's I have/had. The paint and clearcoat for my viggen blue 99 cost me $600, just to buy the material. That didn't include the other $500 in materials I needed to buy also. Then there were the 1500 hours of my time to do all the work for EACH resto. If you figure what I made on the sale of my 75 EMS, it works out to less than $4/hr. We certainly can't make a living at that rate doing 99 restos.
