blow-by, but compression ok Posted by JohnT [Email] (#1654) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JohnT) on Thu, 30 Dec 2004 07:28:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a B turbo motor from a '80 900 in my '80 99GLi. It has a mysterious irregular miss that I have been unable to track down (and I have tried *everything*)! I noticed that there seems to be an unusual amount of blow-by when I remove the oil filler cap. I have checked compression with the engine both hot and cold. All cylinders are 120 psi, hot or cold. The engine uses/leaks no oil and no leaks in the cooling system. Another thing is that the car runs beautifully when cold. It only starts stuttering up after it warms up. Can anyone tell me is it possible to have a head crack in a way that does not show up in a compression test, like maybe in the exhaust port? I remember reading here awhile back that some of the B cylinder heads had problems with porosity. Could this be what I am seeing? I really appreciate any input!
