Anyone know about the orange and black seals? All the pumps I have here(5 or so...some 8 cog, some 12) have the black seal. I found this orange seal in the tool box and thought I'd try it, but noticed it has some differences, which make me wonder if it will even work at all.
I can find no mention of seal differences in the manual, or on Townsend's site.
The inner diameter of the black seal is larger and fits snugly over the oil seal below it. I'm not sure if that's even necessary, since when they are both placed in the bore, do they really contact each other? Why would they need to contact each other anyway? The oil seal seals the shaft from the looks of it. The water seal is spring loaded and seals the bottom of the impeller, as well as sealing the bore it's pressed into. The orange seal is also taller, and it looks like it would have more spring pressure to seal the impeller.
I'd hate install it and do this job for the fourth time if it doesn't work, but it's hard to tell what's going on underneath once the impeller is pressed on.
