Curious about alternator light...

My Saab is the only car I have ever owned that the alternator light stays on after starting, and the light only goes off after the engine revs over 1500 rpm. This has been true with my old and new alternator. A local Saab shop has told me that this is normal, something about the circuitry, and even C900s do that. Is this true, and if so, why? If not, is my temp/fuel/idiot light gauge going bad?

PS I hope Karl no. reads this. If anyone would know, he would. If you have visited his Saab 99 Tips site, and browsed his electric section, you would agree.
