If it takes 60 minutes per side then someone is doing something wrong.
Jack the car up, take of the wheels, put car on jack stands, position top hooks of compressor (bolt head on top), position lower hooks loosely, place jack under lower a-arm, jack up on a-arm until the car is about to come off the jack stands (spring is as compressed as you can get it with the jack) while keeping compressor in place (turn compression bolt by hand), make sure compressor is properly positioned and start cranking 1/8 turn at a time, when the compressor feels pretty tight drop jack down and remove, you shouldn't need to compress it too much more. I can remove and re-install both sides in under an hour.
Some other tips:
It sometimes helps to remove the nut on the spring perch for better hook access. Make sure you position the bolt so that it has enough clearance and won't contact the brakes or ball joint (you may need to turn the wheels). When I take the spring out of the compressor or put one in I load or unload it in a hydraulic press if I have one handy (saves time and contains the spring).
