The car has value, as Don said, but only to the very few who know what it is and then, want it very badly. The hhistoric cache is huge, but then if the work has been botched or modifications take it away from the test mule status, then value plummets. (('s in particular are rare to begin with, yet those that want them are even rarer, making the maker dismal for those sellin gand not so bad for those buying... buying a 99 is not an investment. I don't know anyone who has profitted from it... DougM might come close but making a few bucks an hour over a resto project isn't profit... :)
So your project car could be worth 9-10k executed right and depending on finding the right buyer, or it could lanquish around at that price. Executed wrong, and the value would be no more than any other 99. I have a '74 99 Wagonback.... first year of the hatch, one year only color, very rare model, but it has no value above any other 99 of similar vintage simply because there is no demand.
99's - a labor of love, slightly higher on the money slide than a sailboat. :)
