Well, there are plenty of posts on this site concerning puting a 16V in a 99. Puting one in a 900 is really easy seeing as the engine was built to go with those cars. You really don't have any modifications to do. As for the fuel distributor, they are plentiful if yours is bad. They do get corroded and gummed up but that doesn't mean they are unsalvageable. You can spray them/soak them in carb cleaner or what have you and see what you get. If there wasn't much gas in the car when parked maybe you'll be fine. My first 99 had been sitting 4 years and I ended up replacing everything. My second had been sitting 12 and with new gas fired up and I never changed a thing. Try it first. You can detach the fuel lines and remove the distributor from the sensor plate bit but don't take the distributor apart...it will never work if you split the two halves.
Changing these things out (the fuel parts) is not all that bad. Replacing an engine, seeing as you are feeling a bit worn, might be too much, but relatively speaking, and easy process as well. Good luck.
