to give you a little historic context:
Saab hooked up with Triumph at the Ricardo company for development of their new respective engines. Ricardo developed the mutual engines, and as such the 1.7 and later the 1.85 litre engines were mae there.
Saab was not happy with the quality, (among which were the cooling capacities) and decided to produce them themselves, taking the engine to the Saab facilities and developed from the 1.7/1.85 base the 2.0 litre b-block.
So after the 1.85 block the 2.0 block is an independent branch evolution from the original Ricardo block, an evolution that Triumph didn't share.
I don't know how much the Triumph block has changed over time, when Triumph started to make the TR7, but for sure it is not the SAME block, as what Saab used in '79. Saab has in the early 70's modified the cooling system quite a bit, nearly annually, until as late as 75/76, when they apparently finally found a stable block cooling.
That said, it might be interchangeable, as for the mounting points.
Headgaskets etc are not the same as far as i know. Not sure about gearbox mounting.
hope this partly answers your question.
