ignition switch Posted by Frank [Email] (#2509) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Frank) on Sat, 31 May 2008 09:50:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi, I have a 1979 saab 99 and I think I have a problem with the electrical part of the ignition switch. My car will start up eventually, but at first it seems like no electricity is getting to the fuel pump, then on the second try usually it'll start up. The problem is this, when I have the ignition in the K position, nothing on the dash board lights up, even once the car is running, I've got no fuel gauge, no temp gauge. Now, sometimes, when the car is running, and I turn on the lights, the temp gauge and fuel gauge will come on, but so will the 'AMP' light. This will also happen if I turn on the fan inside the car. Now, here's another part of this...my radiator fan now, will not turn on at all, with the car running or with the key in the K posion, the fan works when tested, and the wired connection is good, but when I touch the two ends of the wires together by the fan switch on the radiator, I get nothing. All fuses and relays are good, could this have anything to do with the ignition lock relay or start lock relay?...or does it sound like the ignition switch is the problem? I bought a new ignition switch, but can't get it to work correctly, it has 6 connectors with a new '30' connector rather then the regular 5, I think I am going to return it and look for another one. Any ideas on this problem? Sorry for the long post, but this problem makes this car very unreliable and I need to get it running right. Thanks for your help!
