Not really tricky, but if you haven't used it, now's the time. Since you asked what the best sandable primer was, I was going to suggest PPG's OMNI brand of urethane primers. They are high solids, so they are also high build....which means, a few coats and you have ALOT of material to sand. I'd consult your local auto parts store that sells PPG products for more information.
