The Saab "B" engine does not have valve seals, so I don't think that is it. Oil can be pulled over in the PCV system, but these engines don't tend to have much ring wear/blowby either, so the most common thing would be carbon from fuel system issues making it run rich.
I agree with the "put new plugs in and run it" advice!
