The "B" block pistons were cast for a lower compression because w/o APC (Knock Sensors) the turbo would pressurize the manifold, retard the timing and just dump lots of fuel/air into the cylinders.
Also on the "B" block heads there were some "thin" areas in the casting that would give way after either neglect or many miles.
