I think you might be missing my point

Unless I have just not found it, 90% of the available interchange information lists either Saab part numbers or Beck-Arnley or Bap-Geon type numbers. While every piece of interchange information is important, Saab or Beck-Arnley part numbers are not always a lot of help, especially for parts more obscure than the fuel pump and throw-out bearing. Maybe it is the area of the country where I live and the fact that I am not surrounded by foreign car parts dealers. The best of these parts suppliers for me is NAPA but a good number of the NAPA part numbers listed on the interchanges are no longer available or NAPA has change the part number with no cross reference. The VSAAB site lists some interchange information but a good deal of it is outdated or incorrect and apparently is not maintained on a regular basis.
What I am trying to compile is a list of interchangeable parts that I can take to my local AutoZone and say "I need a caliper repair kit for a Mini" or where I can logon to a British car parts source and find the equivalent part among other European car models.
I also belong the the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club. Kaisers were manufactured from 1946-1955. The first thing I got from the owner's club was a 10 page listing that told me the Ford, Chevrolet, etc. part that would interchange with the Kaiser part. If I ask for parts for my 1948 Kaiser at AutoZone they look at me like I have a hole in my head. If I ask for brake shoes for a 1947 Plymouth, they are much more likely to have this or I can go to any of the hundreds of specialty suppliers for old Plymouths, Fords and Chevys and get the part. Unfortunately, old Saabs do not have the same following and demand for parts that offers us the luxury of many specialty parts suppliers offering aftermarket parts and reproductions like what you can get for VWs and other more common collector-type cars.
