Thanks for the help and partnumber conversion lists Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Sat, 29 Jan 2005 15:48:01 In Reply to: Help with 96 66-67 brake parts differences, SWEDECAR [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 26 Jan 2005 17:26:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Now I have spent many more hours on the net and over Saab partnumbers and know more than I even did when I saw these cars on a regular basis 30 years ago.
I still have more question though for the one who knows the answers.
I'm still puzzled about the rear brake system since Saab has two different part numbers both for drums, shoes and wheel cylinders depending on if a 95 or 96 and chassis number dependant.
Many states that the shoes and drums are the same over a big spread of years but then again it might be just the difference between the 4 and 5 wheel bolt system.
This car has the 4 lug bolts.
The only Saab part list I could find was the 67-80 V4 and I know it is always a risk you take if you are not looking at the exact parts catalog (model/year).
As far as I have figured out, the car has the smaller wheel cylinders, 5/8" in diameter compared to 3/4". But wheel cylinders seems to be fairly easy to find on the net.
The brake shoes I need to have relined with new material because I haven't found anyone selling complete shoes.
The car could need new front rotors as well but is it possible to find the ones for the 4 bolt wheel hub.
I found a Brembo part number while searching but don't know which model they are for, Brembo P/N 25015.
Ignition cap and rotor could be a challenge.
I have two sets of Bosch numbers but neither of them gives me a hit on the net.
Ignition cap Bosch ZVS75Z24 (1235522130)
Ignition rotor Bosch ZVVT9Z4 (1234332123)
The car has the vented cap.
And what the heck is a "shrike"? I have never heard that name before in my life until one of the online part suppliers asked for model being a 95, 96, Monte Carlo or 95/96M Shrike?????
I even had forgot about that you use number two cylinder to set the timing, thanks Saabnet and its poster for having that information just with a quick search.
What is the preferrd oil mix?
I feel that the car doesn't smoke as mush as I'm used to see back then and I don't know if it because the two stroke oil is better nowadays or if the owner is running it too lean (50/1).
When I got the timing right (zero at idle) it seems to be clicking/clacking a lot more from detonation when revved up and the vacuum advance throws the timing advanced too far it feels like.
Maybe the distributor is worn out too?
Lots of fun on a Saturday.
