Surprises abound with this spare engine. The exhaust outlets seem to be 1 3/4in already! Could this be stock? It was from a sonett of unknown origin. I removed the timing cover to get a gander at those nylon gears I have been reading about. The crank and balance gears are steel, but the cam gear is nylon!?! Aren't they all supposed to be the same? Either steel or nylon?
Cleaning the grunge off of the carb, I found it to be a Weber 32/36 DGV-5A. This is good right? However it seems to be missing some of the linkage bits. Is there a picture of this carb on a 96 for reference anywhere? It sits on a stock 2bbl intake manifold. Several months ago Jack Lawrence told me the stock intake manifold was restrictive and negated the benefit of the 2bbl carb. Can't afford the good one yet, are there any cheepo porting tricks to help the inlet manifold I have? Alternately should I use the 34ICH and intake that are on the running 1500 and just swap heads?
Back to the heads. Valves and seats for sure, might as well go larger. Do I have to upgrade springs since the cam and bottom end are not in the budget this go around?
Ultimate goal is to freshen the runner by utilising bolt on bits from the donor without pulling the engine. The exhaust is also on the list.
Sorry for rambling
Tom
