First off the v4 is a rally car so it's run pretty hard for a almost 40 year old car... The motor was just rebuilt, and before and after.. Well for awhile anyway..
In the middle of a rally.. Maybe 250 miles after the rebuilld, it would intermittently be hard to shift into first and/or second, but it would go away... However, at one point when it had to be put into second abruptly, there was a significant bang from under the car.. I immediately killed the car.. After which, when the shifter in neutral and no parking brake, it wouldn't go anywhere.. It literally had to be dragged up a jerdan rollback... However, when we got it home, figuring it would be bitch to get it up the driveway, it rolled fine.... Reverse and 1st appear to engage but after that ordeal, I'm not taking it any where, and am going to pull it and hopefully replace it with another one that I can rebuild separately, so as to not have the motor out of the car for very long.. I am at a total loss for what happened to it... Only thing I can think of is that after the rebuild that connection between the engine and trans was stressed (perhaps the trans wasn't set/mounted correctly, but it looks ok from what I can see) and something locked up, that dragging it helped knock back into shape..
I'm looking for possible ideas to wth I did to it, so I can check it out better when it comes out, so as to not mess up another.. Fortunately, it appears that the engine is still good, the abrupt stop didn't appear to affect the timing (worried that I could have chipped a timing tooth) Plus, if anyone has a good source of v4 transmissions, I'd be interested as well..
