Help! removing Speedocable housing on tranny

I just pulled a 64,000 mile tranny out of a 1972 96 v4, What are the basic things to check? I did pull the lower drain pug and found just a few small fibers on the magnet. No chuncks, so that was good. What does one do to flush the tranny. I have redline MTL on the shelf ready to go in the tranny.

Also How does one remove the speedo cable housing on the transmission? I am talking about the part that the speedo cable end goes into the transmission. I need to remove mine to clean it.
