No reports before 1981

There are no reports for any cars before 1981. In 1981 the US government required a standardized 17 digit VIN number. You need this type of VIN for getting any of the reports from Carfax, Autocheck, etc. Also, there was not much reporting of information to any sort of national database intil the mid to late 80's.
