I have never thought to check...I just picked up a '69 96 in NC, in great shape. It had what looked like an MSS exhaust until the first joint, and then nothing but straight pipe back to a ridiculously small JC Whitney-type muffler. It sounded embarrassingly awful.
Put on a real MSS system, with glasspack, and it sounds great. I'll try your experiment to see...assuming I can get it to 70 mph!
