My 67 stroker has been fighting me throughout my 3 month ownership. One nagging unresolved issue is persistent flooding from the front carb (front only.. I have not had any flooding problems with the middle or aft carb.
The car will run great for a day or so, then without warning, and under various conditions (sometimes while just driving down the road at steady cruise), the engine will die. I have Facet elec. Pump instead of original mechanical one. If I leave the ignition on after the engine quits.. gas will just be pouring out of the forward carb. Sometimes, just letting it sit with key off for a bit and a few taps on the carb will get me back to normal. Sometimes not, rendering it very unreliable to venture far from home.
So far I have done the following (so please read before suggesting the same):
1. Installed a big inline filter near tank and replaced ALL fuel lines from tank to carbs
2. Checked carb for inlet screen filter (in place and unobstructed)
3. Removed carb top (2 times) checked for clean bowl and unobstructed float valve
4. Replaced both the float and valve with used from a spare carb I acquired
I bought a Solex 34 kit from a VW supply, but the valve didn't have the machined groove for the little wire float clip as on my originals so I didn't install it. Then I ordered a pair of float valves from Skandix Germany. I just got these from my German friend while vacationing in Spain (Skandix shipping too expensive to ship to Texas), and will install this when I get home, but I am not optimistic this will solve the problem.
Perhaps my next step should be checking pressure from the fuel pump.
Just wonder if anyone else has encountered similar behaviour and has found a resolution?
